HESS Company Profile
In 1983, HESS International Educational Group was founded in Taipei, Taiwan.
Within a matter of 30 years, we have more than 220 schools across five countries that use HESS teaching materials and methods. In Taiwan, we are not only the largest language institute, but also one of the largest employers of foreign teachers.
Our organization focuses on three areas: providing quality education to students of all ages, developing and publishing exemplary books and materials, and supporting local communities through philanthropic activities.
HESS Language School
HESS Language School programs are geared toward students as young as 4 and as old as 15. In order to accommodate all the different learning styles, we present language as visual and aural, as well as by providing kinesthetic cues.
It is important to stimulate all of these senses so that students are looking, listening, and moving. The objective of our teaching method is to meet the learning needs of all students by teaching to the sense with which they learn best. The secondary objectives include enhancing student’s memory access and retention by giving them multiple ways to remember information. To motivate maximum participation from our students, we ensure our lessons’ activities are hands-on and engaging.
HESS Preschool
Hess Preschools focus on providing a supportive and motivating environment promoting a whole child learning experience. Focusing on more than teaching languages, numbers and other classroom schools, our preschools also develop the important skills needed in a child’s development. Social interaction, muscle memory development, and personal wellbeing are among the many other skills which we nurture in our students.
Focusing on children aged 2 to 6, our programs provide care and support. With age appropriate learning goals, HESS preschool students get the accelerated first step that will give them the tools they need to be successful. Happy motivated students are what we strive for.
HESS International Studies Institute
The HESS International Studies Institute (ISI) employs educators with extensive teaching experience to lead classes in business English and general English for companies across Taiwan.
In addition to teachers from English-speaking countries, ISI also employs teachers from Japan and France to teach our Japanese and French courses to all age levels. All of our teachers use interactive teaching strategies so students become confident and accurate language users.
Every year, HESS also takes groups of students to the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, giving them the invaluable opportunity to learn about a foreign study environment, language, and culture through firsthand experience.
HESS Foundation & Bookstore
HESS Foundation is aimed at providing better educational opportunities for Taiwan’s underprivileged children.
In 1998, HESS Educational Foundation was established in loving memory of the mother of HESS president and co-founder, Joseph Chu. Mrs. Chu’s life was riddled with hardship. Despite experiencing extreme poverty and receiving only a third-grade public school education, Mrs. Chu was determined to provide better educational opportunities for her family. And so, the foundation was established as a dedication to her strength and determination.
The objective of HESS Foundation is to enhance the community’s vibrant culture by providing assistance to disadvantaged children. Every life has equal value, and our goal is to educate the whole child. We strive to provide a creative learning environment by offering workshops, English classes, and camps.
HESS Bookstores provide an extensive selection of periodicals, books, and stationery items catering to all interests and age groups. Our areas of excellence include education, family, health, and children’s books.
At HESS Bookstores, in conjunction with the HESS Foundation, we also host educational seminars that are open to the public and operate the Family Reading Club, which promotes education through reading for the whole family.
HESS Publishing Company
Established in 1987, HESS Publishing Company produces a variety of educational materials for Taiwanese public schools and private educational institutions in addition to our own in-house curricula. To date, HESS Publishing Company has published more than 1,000 titles, and as a result, students use more than 800,000 copies of our award-winning teaching and learning materials every year.
To reach the highest standard of product quality, HESS Publishing collaborates with our Educational Research Divisions in producing all of our Chinese, English, Japanese, and French language materials. HESS has a diverse team of writers and editors from Taiwan, France, Japan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Our materials are now being embraced internationally with a Japanese education company buying them. HESS Education Centre in Singapore also uses HESS’ published materials.
Taiwan and Beyond
HESS International Educational Group has a vibrant and growing presence in Asia. Since 1983, we have been reaching out in Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Korea, and China to provide quality education and resources, and we are driven to continue this deeply held tradition.
